At Veteran Pathways of New England, we understand the connection between Veteran homelessness, instability, isolation, and suicide risk. Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are among those who need our support the most.
For Roger “RJ” Baez, our Director of Housing and Family Support, this work is personal.
RJ served in the United States Marine Corps for nearly 26 years, retiring in 2023 at the rank of Sergeant Major. Today, he continues serving the Veteran community through his work at Veteran Pathways of New England.
On September 8, with 22 days remaining in the month, RJ began a challenge to complete 100 miles by September 30 through running, rucking, walking, and jogging. But this challenge is about much more than miles.
It’s about raising awareness, raising funds, and reminding our Veterans that they are not alone.
Every dollar raised will support Veteran Pathways of New England and the free, Veteran-centered programs and services we provide to Veterans and their families. These programs help address homelessness, financial instability, food insecurity, isolation, and other barriers Veterans may face.
You can join the challenge too. Make a donation. Join RJ for a mile. Share his story. Invite a Veteran, friend, coworker, or family member to get involved. Whether you run, ruck, walk, bike, donate, or simply help spread the word, every step matters.
RJ is already putting in the miles, and we’ll be sharing his progress throughout the challenge.

22 days. 100 miles. One community standing behind our Veterans.
Let’s turn movement into momentum. Let’s turn awareness into action. And let’s make sure every Veteran knows there is a path forward.
